The name Drahosyn has South Slavic origins and is derived from the adjective "drag," meaning "dear, beloved," and the noun "syn," meaning "son." According to S. Ilchev, the original meaning of the Bulgarian name was "dear child" or a possessive adjective from the name Dragosta. M. Grkovich believes that this is a phonetically altered version of the name Dragoslav with the suffix -in. In our opinion, the conclusion of S. Ilchev is closer to the truth. In Ukraine, derivatives of the name Drahosyn have existed for quite a long time. For example, sources mention the patronymic: "we have risen to faithful service... Vлада Драгосиновича." In the Romanian Maramureș, the surname Dragșin is recorded. In the 15th century, in the territory of the Moldavian Principality, the toponyms Dragșini and Dragosiniești were recorded several times. In particular, a document from 1455 mentions "a village named Dragșini," while in 1426 it refers to "one village... named Dragosiniești."
