Name «Dovhal»

The name "Dovhal" comes from the dialectal word "dovhal," which means "tall and slender person" (Hr 14 0 1). For instance, in 1552, "Dovhal Krychevets" from the city of Chornobyl is mentioned (OCZ 591). In the 15th century, the lexeme "Dovhal" already functions as a surname. For example, in 1649, Cossacks Kosti Dovhal and Stepan Dovhal are mentioned, as well as the patronymic of the Cossack from the Cherkasy regiment, Oleshko Dovhalenko (RVZ 99, 155, 83; Tup 130).
