In documents from 1497, there is a mention of "parte fluvii Drohomisl," confirming this. Thus, the name of the village and the river simultaneously indicated the founder of the village and the river as his individual property in 1564-1565. The name Dorohomysl is formed from the adjectival base "dorozh-," meaning "dear, valuable," and the noun "mysl," meaning "thought."
