The name Dokhno originates from the patronymic Dohnovych, which has been documented since 1446 and later. Notably, the nobleman Pashko Dohnovych is mentioned in the Dictionary of Old Ukrainian Language (SSUМ) in entries 322 and 83, and the noble Dohnovych, father of Kvedka Pashkova, lived in Lutsk in 1490. Interestingly, there is also a Transcarpathian surname Dukhnovych, which took its final form due to a phenomenon known as "ukannya," leading to its establishment as Dukhnovych. The name Dokhno itself is an ancient Ukrainian formation with the suffix -khno (compare with personal names such as Makhno, Sakhno, Tikhno, etc.). It arose from the shortening of a Slavic name beginning with Do-, similar to names like Dobromyr, Dobronih, Dobroslav, or calendar names such as Dorofey and Dosithey.
