The name "Dobrodiia" is derived from the two-syllable masculine name "Dobrodii," although it is also possible that it serves as a simple equivalent to the masculine appellative "dobrodii," which means 'gentleman.' The name is mentioned in historical sources from the year 1122, when Princess Dobrodiia Mstyslavna was the daughter of the Kyiv prince Olexii Komnin. Additionally, in 1242, Dobrodiia-Evpraksiiia is mentioned as the daughter of Prince Mstyslav Volodymyrovych, who became the wife of the Byzantine emperor Komnin. This woman was taken to Greece in 1222 during the reign of Emperor Olexii.
