The name Dobko is a truncated-suffix derivative of the composite name Dobieslav. It begins to be recorded in Ukrainian territories from the 15th century. For instance, in 1439, it is noted as Dobku Zaleszky; in 1450, as Dobco; in 1447, as Domini Dobkonis in the city of Peremyshl; and in 1468, as Pan Dobka from Beshov. There is also a patronymic recorded in 1445 as Dobkowycz. In Polish territories, the name Dobko is already mentioned in 1371, and in Zakarpattia, specifically in the village of Sasovo, the surname Dobka is documented in 1628.
