The ancient name Didosh is derived from the name of the village Didoshychi, which is mentioned in 1430 in the Lviv region. The name is formed by removing the patronymic suffix -ychy. The earliest mention of the personal name Didosh dates back to 1222, when it appears in a document from Upper Potissia: "Dedus portate ferro" in the Szabolcs county. The name Didosh was indeed in use, as evidenced by its usage in Old Serbian throughout the 14th century. The name Didosh originated as a colloquial form of the compound name Didoslav.
