The name "Deshko" has been recorded in Transcarpathia and Prykarpattia since the 15th century. For example, in 1414, a document from the village of Ublya in the Uzhhorod region mentions: "Desko et Cosmas filii Ihnath." In the 15th century, the name "Deszko" was found near the city of Przemyśl. J. Rieger considers this name to be an equivalent of the calendrical name Demyan or Demko. A record from 1498, without a specified location, reads: "I pop from the porėchky named Isidor with his sons from Hryniama with Deshko."In the 16th century, the name "Deshko" was mentioned in several Ukrainian documents. For instance, "Deszko Byiymowicz" and "Deshko Radkovich." In 1581, in the Transcarpathian village of Deshkovytsia, the surname "Desko" was mentioned: "Desko Andreas." In 1649, a Cossack named Savko Deschenko was noted in the Chernihiv regiment. Additionally, in 1600, there is a record of "Deshko Bakumov, son-in-law." In 1649, a Cossack named "Deshko Povtoratskiy" was mentioned in the Pereiaslav regiment, while in the Kyiv regiment, there is mention of the Cossack "Deshko Sulym."In the Satmar comitat, an apocopated variant of this name was also used; specifically, in 1213, a participant in the divine trials from the village of Buhtmediator is mentioned by the name "Desk." In Bulgarian, this name exists in hypocoristic forms: Deshko, Desho, Desyo, Decho, which can be traced back to the Slavic bi-root name "Desislav." In Serbian, the name "Deshko" has been found since the 13th century and is also associated with the name "Desislav."Therefore, it can be asserted that the Ukrainian name "Deshko" from the 15th to 17th centuries is a truncated-suffix formation derived from ancient Slavic bi-root names of the models "Desimir" and "Desislav."
