Dazhbog is an ancient Slavic male personal name. Its basis lies in the Slavic name of the pre-Christian god of the Sun and the god-giver, that is, a deity that brings prosperity. In Rus, this god was called Dazhъbogъ, in Poland — Dadżbog, in Serbia — Дајбог, and in Bulgaria — Даждьбог. All variants of the name, except for the Serbian one, derive from the imperative form of the verb *dadj 'give' and the noun bog meaning 'prosperity, happiness'.The name of this Slavic pagan deity is mentioned in the documentary sources of the Eastern Slavs as early as the years 980, 1114, and 1180. Traces of the theonym Dazhbog are preserved in the name of a street in Uzhhorod — Daibozka. Initially, the personal name Dazhbog was likely a wishful expression. The first written mention of the ancient Ukrainian personal name Dazhbog comes from the city of Suceava and is dated 1471: "and there is the faith of the lord Dazhbog, the cupbearer." However, patronymics formed from the personal name Dazhbog are recorded among Ukrainians almost a hundred years earlier. For example, in 1394, a landowner named Danilo Dazhbogovych Zaderevetsky from Krakow is mentioned in documents.
