The name Danchul is attested in written records from Moldova, Southern Bukovina, and Maramureș from the 15th to 18th centuries, and less frequently in the records of Right-Bank Ukraine. For example, the sons of Valentin the Wallach from the village of Dragomirești in 1419 are: Danchul, Johannes, Lucas, Sandrinus (Belay 166); in 1549, a serf Danchul is mentioned from the village of H. Seliște (Belay 195); in 1456, a noble Danchul is referenced in the village of H. Vișeul de Sus (Belay 219); in 1421, a document refers to our Danchul Pleșa from Suceava (SSUM I 280); and in 1605, a serf named Blede Danchul is noted from the village of Shugatag (Belay 166). Outside of Maramureș, the name Danchul is mentioned among the Zaporozhian Cossacks in 1649, for instance, Cossack Danchŭl Smorșenco from the Uman Regiment (RVZ 203) and Cossack Danchul Strubalarenco from the Bratslav Regiment (RVZ 258). The male name Danchul is formed using the Eastern Balkan diminutive suffix -ul from the name Dancha (Bohdan 260).
