Name «Chulei»

The personal name "Chulei" is formed with the suffix -ey from the nickname "Chulya," which was used for a corn-eared dog. The first mention of this name comes from the Varadin registers of 1214: "Petrus filii Chuley" (Reg Var 178). The modern surnames of Ukrainians from the Tiachiv and Khust regions are a continuation of this name. For example, in 1715, a serf "Csuley Laszlo" from the village of Nankovo is mentioned (Belay 154), and in 1730, "Chulei Havyrilo" from the village of Bushtyno is noted (Chu Prizv. 613). In Poland, the anthroponym "Czuła," which serves as the root for the patronymic "Chulei," has been used since the 15th century (SSNO 1434).
