The Slavic name Chernyslav is embedded in the patronymic surname Kostе Chrnyslavov, recorded in 1434 in the city of Suceava. In this case, all three individuals are ethnically identified as Romani: "three Romani serving people named Slav, Khrylovin, and Koste Chrnyslavov's son-in-law." The structure of the surname Chernyslav is distinctly Slavic, and the appertaining meaning of both its components is fully understandable. However, their combination is somewhat unusual, although the name Crnoslav is mentioned among Croatians in the 12th century.
