For example, in 1444 it was recorded as: Czernysz (AGZ XIV 9 48); in 1552 — Чернышь — son of Gryshyn — a Vinnytsia townsman; Чернышь Унучкович; Чернышь Степанович (Arch YZR VII/1 607, 606, 604); in 1649, Cossack of the Korsun regiment Черныш Нечипоренко [RVZ 138]. The name Черниш has historically formed patronymics. For instance, in 1572 — Васко Чернышевич — a peasant from the southwestern region (Arch YZR VI/1 93); in 1649, Cossack of the Uman regiment Пєдор Чорьнищєнко (RVZ 220); in 1669, Сава Чернышенко — a Zaporizhian Cossack (Tup 823). In Poland at that time, the anthroponym Czernusch was also documented (SSNO I 421), although names such as Czernoch, Czernosz, Czarnosz, and Czarnusz were also used in the 15th century (SSNO I 403, 421, 426).
