The only known example of the name "Chernata" originates from the Braclav Regiment of 1649, which was located near Moldova. In this context, a Cossack named Chernata Yanenko is mentioned (source: RVZ 252), as well as the surname of a Cossack from the Uman Regiment of the same year - Panas Chernata (source: RVZ 228).
