Bratsha is an outdated Ukrainian name that features the suffix -sha and originates from the Slavic dual-root male names, such as Bratoslav or Dorogobrat. These names contained the root -brat- either at the beginning or the end. All Ukrainian records of this name date back to the 14th or 15th century. For instance, in 1388, "boyar Bratsha Minigaylo and Prince Yuriy Kozhushno Ivanovych" are mentioned in the town of Zudechiv, and in 1392, "his brother Dmitriy Lip and Bratsha Prince Yuriy Kozhushno" are noted. In addition to the formation of the name Bratsha, there was also a variation in Ukraine with the diminutive suffix -ash, such as Bratay. However, records from the 17th century only document it as a surname.
