Name «Borboh»

The name "Borboh" is derived from the toponym recorded in 1796 as Borbożycze. Today, this name is also in use. In composite names within East Slavic territories, the "bor-" form in the pre-ordinate of names is rarely encountered. Documented examples, such as the Ukrainian names Boryslav, indicate a loss of the final vowel or another final vowel from the word "боротися" (to fight). The second component of this name is the noun "бог" (god). Throughout the 15th century, the name "Borzecz" was used among peasants in the Galician and Lviv lands. It appeared as a Ukrainian truncated-suffix formation with the demonstrative suffix "-ець" from some dual-base names, such as Borivoy, Boryslav, or names like Mystibor, Ratibor, and Sambor, where the "bor" root expressed the meaning of "struggle, to fight."In 1693, records mention the serf Borecz Hauryllo from the village of Drahiv.
