The first written mention of the name Bohovyt (specifically, the irregular patronymic Bohovytyn) dates back to the 15th - 16th centuries and originates from Polissia and Volyn. For example, in 1401, a certain Lev Bohovytynovych is mentioned in Lutsk (Archive of the South-Western Region 8 / IV 8); in 1523, Bohovytyn Petrovyč Shumersky is recorded in Kremenets (WKO 124); in 1596, Andriy Bohovytyn is noted in Kremenets (Yefymenko 43).The name Bohovyt is an ancient Slavic composite, based on the anthropobase "Boh-".
