Name «Bohodar»

The earliest records of the name Bohodar date back to the 12th-13th centuries. It is believed that the origin of this name is connected to the Lublin region. M. Karpliuk suggests that the Polish male name Bohodar is an ancient Slavic creation, and possibly a calque of the Greek Christian name Osoóopoę. Among the 509 students of the Przemysl Ukrainian Gymnasium in 1938, only one student bore the name Bohodar. In the cities of Lutsk, Khmelnytskyi, and several other cities in Western Ukraine, the male name Bohodar began to be used since the time of World War II. Over the past few years, the name has gradually gained popularity in Galicia. For example, a contemporary individual named Bohodar Katrovych is a musician and postgraduate student from Kyiv, although modern name dictionaries tend to overlook this name. Additionally, the name Bohodar has recently been revived in the city of Ternopil.
