**Bohdanets** is a Slavic diminutive formation from the Medieval period, which originated from the two-root name Bohdan and the diminutive suffix -ets. In the 16th century, the name was predominantly used in the Dnipro region of Ukraine. For example, in 1552, the surnames of residents from the Cherkasy fortress were recorded: Bohdanets Telny and Loynenko Bohdanets, as well as a resident of the Kaniv fortress that same year — Bohdanets Shestomoshenok.During the 17th - 18th centuries, the name Bohdanets, along with formations such as Bohdasy, Bohdanko, and Bohdashko, functioned not only in Ukraine but also in Belarus. There is also a known record from the 17th century in Volhynia: Litvin Bohdanets, and the name is partially found in Poland.Among Serbs, the name Bohdanets was documented in the early 14th century.
