The name "Bobryk" has an interesting origin related to the history of Ukraine. In the XV - XVI centuries, beavers were common in the waters of Ukraine, and their fur had great value. The diminutive and affectionate form of the name of the large aquatic rodent "beaver" was also used as a proper masculine name.Evidence of this can be found in numerous records from the XIV - XVI centuries from central, northern, and western regions of Ukraine. For example, in 1552, there is a mention of "Bobryk the Tailor" from Kremenets, and in 1565, "Bobryk Vartanovych". In 1571, the name "Bobryk" is also listed among personal names along with others such as Yats, Myzko, and Moysei.Other examples of the use of this name include records from 1461, where Semen Bobrykovič from Kyiv is mentioned, and nobleman Fedko Bobryk from Lutsk. At the end of the XVII century, a Cossack of the Cherkasy regiment named Zakhar Bobryk was noted. Similar variants of the name were also popular in Belarus, where individuals with names such as Bobr Fedkovich and Bobryk Yaskov have been recorded. In Poland, the names "Bób r" and "Bobrik" were used until the XVI century, confirming the widespread use of this name in the region.
