The name "Bezdid" has Proto-Slavic roots, with possible Balto-Slavic origins. It was formed from the prepositional word form "bezdida," which means "one who has no grandfather." According to Czech and Slavic records, there are variations of this name, such as the Czech name "Bezded," the Old Polish "Biezdziad," as well as ancient Russian references to a settlement called "Bezdizh" on the Lower Don. The earliest records of this name in Ukrainian lands date back to 1551 and 1603, found in the Maramarosh village of Remeta, where mentions of serfs with the surname "Bezded" can be found. In 1783, a possession "Bezdizh" was also recorded in the village of Motol. Additionally, there is the name "Bezniž," which is linked to the name of a swamp that existed in 1566 in the area of Brest. This name is also based on the combination of the preposition "bez" and the word "niž" from old Slavic meaning, which can signify "care" or "luxury."
