Name «Turko»

The name "Turko" originates from the personal name "Turko" (Mor 195), which, in turn, derives from the name of the animal "tür" (an extinct breed of wild cattle) with the addition of the suffix "-ko" (Gaborek 168). In particular, historical documents from 1525 record noblemen with the surname "Thurka" in the village of S. Vodiane (Belay 122). Additionally, in 1649, a Cossack from the Kyiv regiment is mentioned with the surname Radko Turienko (RVZ 302), as well as a Cossack from the Biłocerkiw regiment named Herysіm Turenenko (RVZ 192).
