Name «Stryi»

The name "Stryi" comes from the patronymic of 1564, Hryn Stryevych (Stryowicz), who was a peasant from Lyuboml (Archives of the Southern Ukraine, VII/2, 343). This name is derived from the traditional kinship term "stry," meaning "father's brother." It is also possible that it originates from one of the dual-root names, such as Stroitimir or Stroiyslav (Svob87). It is worth noting that in 1591, a nobleman named Sthryka Janos from the village of Solotvyn was mentioned (Belay 201).
