Name «Rut»

The name 'Rut' is derived from the Hebrew רוּת‎ (Ruth), which is formed from רְעוּת — meaning "friend" or "female friend." Ruth is a well-known biblical figure, whose name is associated with one of the books of the Bible. In Ukrainian, it is rendered in various ways: either "Ruf" (through Old Church Slavonic Роуѳь, from Greek Ρουθ), or "Rut" (via Latin Ruth), or "Ruta" (from Polish Ruta).
