Name «Husak»

The name "Husak" appears in historical sources. In 1648, a serf named Nizsak Marton is mentioned in the Transcarpathian village of Chynadovo (document Maksay Urb. 521). In 1649, a Cossack named Ivan Husak is mentioned in the Cherkasy regiment (document RVZ 65). It is likely that the surname "Husak" in both cases derives from the family nickname "Husak." This nickname had an appellative meaning — 'male goose,' indicating a connection with birds.
