Meaning

Horiasir is the name under which the warrior of Sviatoslav Yaroslavich appeared in 1015, known as the killer of Hleb Volodymyrovich. The etymology of this name remains a subject of discussion. If we accept the Slavic version, the prefix can be interpreted as the verbal element "Hor-", which means "to burn." However, the postpositional part of the compound remains unclear, and it is difficult to assume that the base "sir" means "gray." B.
