The sky that met them first
A name is the first gift. The second is a moment: a date, a clock time, a city. This calculator turns that moment into a chart of the actual night sky — the same stars a midwife could have seen if she had stepped outside.
The map is computed in the browser. We take equatorial coordinates of several thousand bright stars, rotate them into the local horizontal frame for Europe/Kyiv civil time, and project the visible hemisphere stereographically. The centre of the circle is the zenith; the rim is the horizon.
Choose a colour theme, a round, ring or heart frame, and a print size. The digital file is free. A framed poster in the post is planned later and is not for sale yet.
Frequently asked questions
What is a birth star map?
It is a portrait of the night sky as it stood over a chosen Ukrainian city at the exact date and time of birth: the visible hemisphere, projected stereographically, with the zenith in the centre and the horizon as the round edge.
How accurate is the sky?
Star positions come from the Hipparcos bright-star catalogue (down to magnitude 6). Local sidereal time, the Moon’s place and its phase are computed for Europe/Kyiv civil time. It is a real astronomical chart, not a random decoration.
Which time zone do you use?
Every city on the list is interpreted in Europe/Kyiv, including historical daylight-saving. Enter the clock time from the birth certificate, not UTC.
Can I print the poster?
Yes. Download a high-resolution PNG or PDF sized for A4, A3 or A2 at 300 DPI. Framed postal delivery is not available yet.
Does the map include southern constellations?
Only stars above the local horizon are drawn. From Ukraine you will not see the Southern Cross; you will see the ones that were actually in that sky — Vega, Deneb, the Great Bear, Orion in winter, and so on.
